I am embarking on yet another challenge and goal in my life! For many of you who know me, that wouldn’t be unfamiliar, lol! Now in my early fifties, a groovy grandma raising an incredible grandson, yet needing another challenge :0. I am setting out with much determination, dedication, and GUTS to meet a personal challenge, show my 12-year-old grandson who has learning disabilities that all things are possible if you set your mind to something, but most of all, to help raise monies to aid in research for a cure for Crohn’s disease/Ulcerative Colitis through Team Challenge by stomping the Vineyards of Napa/Sonoma in a ½ marathon.

So here is the deal, I have set myself with a goal to not only train and run a ½ marathon (13.1 miles OMG!) for Team Challenge/Crohn’s and Colitis in Napa, CA on July 17th, 2011, but more importantly to raise a minimum of 5,000 dollars for Team Challenge, a fundraising program for Crohn’s/Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) for the research to find a cure to this undeniably painful and life challenging disease!

I am running in honor of my father, Gary Tingley who was diagnosed with Crohn’s in early 2000, after many years of suffering. He was in and out of the hospital a number of times over many years; only to find in the end that it was this dreaded disease that he lives with today. It is frustrating to see that although you have the best medical help and support, there is no real easy way to deal with this disease. Although my father has suffered, he also has moved beyond and goes to the gym regularly, plays the drums, and other activities while living with this disease. But many have the disease to worse degrees to include young children who are robbed of their childhood without being able to actively play and be a kid! A cure is what is needed!

Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis are known together as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). They are both painful and medically incurable illnesses that attack the digestive system. It is estimated that over 1.4 million Americans have IBD, however many more suffer in silence. 1.4 MILLION! Since it’s inception, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) has become the largest organization dedicated to curing IBD and funded more than 1,100 grants for Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis research. The Foundation invests dollars wisely, funding only the highest quality research anywhere in the world. The funds for Team Challenge directly benefit the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America to support its’ mission to find a cure and to improve the quality of life for children and adults affected by these diseases. More than 80 cents of every dollars donated to the Foundation goes to mission-critical programs!

This is where I NEED YOUR SUPPORT; I cannot do this alone! Please consider supporting a groovy grandma in her serious efforts by making a tax-deductible donation to CCFA. How about a suggestion of $10.00 per every painstakingly mile I run? Or even $5.00? EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS!! I also will accept additions to my own personal cheering section, deep heat rub, and lots of Alleve! .

Let’s Stomp out these diseases together!

With much love, gratitude and blessings, Debbie (Groovy Grandma) Tingley!
