THE STORY:

"I HEAR THAT" was created for my son, Isaiah, a beautiful, happy, healthy,  and smart boy who just happens to be deaf.

We found out just after he turned one, in June 2012. By July he was in hearing aids, August he started his intense therapy.  Soon after that came the thousand different doctor appointments. Seemingly endless sound booth tests, MRIs, ear tubes, blood work,  & insurance battling wore us out.

(Really, it was exhausting & sign language is way harder than you'd think!)

Then FINALLY in May, [insert triumphant sound effects] Isaiah was scheduled for his cochlear implant surgery!!!!!!!!!

(exciting, yes! But don't let me get started on the wreck I turned into while they were operating!)

On June 6th, 2013, Isaiah was "turned on" & heard the world for the first time.*tear* Truly, a miracle & we have the University of Miami, The Barton G Kids Hear Now Foundation, and his Early Steps team of therapists to thank for it!

Though he is has excelled with language and speech development, the journey is far from over. We still have a long road ahead of us & a lot of unexpected challenges to face.

(This is the part where you all come in)

As it turns out (big shock), the insurance companies are not as helpful as one would hope. They don't really like to be bothered with things like replacing much needed parts.... (At least not in any timely manner if at all) And they certainly don't like making sure you have anything more than the bare minimum.

Very recently, Isaiah's equipment failed.... BIG TIME! He ended up going almost a week without sound! That was probably one of the worst weeks of our lives! Naturally, his insurance company laughed at me for even suggesting a "backup" in case this ever happens again. Turns out, most private insurance companies do provide families with at least 2 of everything.

Isaiah & I are asking for your help! Please help us pay for another cochlear implant!

(As a single mother who wants to make a difference in the lives of her children, I try everyday to be better, to do better and to know better.  I have a job that I love and work hard to make a difference in the world of pre kidergarten.  One day I hope that Zai could play and learn in a classroom just like this one.  Children who hear, children who see, children who know the world thorugh eyes of faith and hope in God and he will hear just like everyone else.  It's a tall order but for him to have the best equipment I must reach out beyond what I have to those who also want to make a difference in this world and in this case Zai's world.)

If you are able to help Isaiah, please know I HEAR THAT and I thank you advance on behalf of Isaiah and our whole family. All proceeds raised beyond the___________Cochlear Implant will be donated to -____________________ so others may also be able to say, "I hear that!"
