BENEFITING: Family Promise of Southwestern PA
EVENT DATE: May 14, 2011
HOURS PLEDGED: 15
My company will be taking homeless children and their families from the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) in Pittsburgh to the Zoo on May 14, 2011. This is the second year that we have provided tickets, transportation, catered lunch, and gifts to the children.
The event will be a unique opportunity to teach children about the excitement of the animal kingdom, and motivate them to develop interests and learn about the world around them. It also provides a day of fun for the whole family that otherwise would be unaffordable to them.
Here's the link from the story last year:
Since 1993, IHN, which operates in Crafton, PA (Allegheny County) and Washington, PA (Washington County), has been providing a solid program for homeless families, incorporating overnight lodging using network churches throughout the area. IHN provides shelter, food, and social services to all families in the program. This is the second time that families from the IHN will have an opportunity to attend an event at the Pittsburgh Zoo.
**Update May 17, 2011**
Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and donations. The Zoo trip was a success this past Saturday, May 14th. About 18 children and their families came with us to the Pittsburgh Zoo. The kids loved their gift bags (check out the animal masks!) and had a great time running around seeing the animals. PT employees mingled at lunch with the kids and had some great photo ops. Check out the pictures on the left to see recent photos from the event.
Thank you again to everyone who helped make this happen. Seeing the joy on the children's faces made every minute worth the effort put into this project.
