Last year, a baby girl named Sky was born to a homeless family. While many of us were celebrating the holidays with our loved ones, Sky’s mother, Jackie, was counting down the days of her pregnancy on the streets. She and her husband, Robert, were struggling to find a safe place to live. While almost unimaginable, their story is all too common.
Every two hours, a child is born into poverty in Orange County. From the first time they open their eyes, the first gasp of air they take, these children face a dark world full of struggle, uncertainty, and hunger. They are joining the ranks of Orange County’s most vulnerable:
28,000 children worry about where they will sleep next.
Nearly 180,000 children are unsure of when their next meal will be.
Homelessness and poverty have clearly reached crisis proportions in Orange County, but there is hope. The Illumination Foundation is an organization with a mission to bring our community together to end homelessness in Orange County. For every disadvantaged family in our county, there are compassionate people who are able and willing to provide the support these families need to get on the right track.
There is no better time than RIGHT NOW to join us in helping these deserving families and children.
At the Illumination Foundation, we’ve committed ourselves to providing the best possible care for homeless families, with a focus on services that will assist families into stable housing. Working alongside our community partners, we’ve provided critical services to thousands of families:
- Housing services to 1,402 families.
- Job readiness training to 824 adults.
- Educational enrichment services to 1,320 children.
- Medical services to 9,226 patients.
Sky, Jackie, and Robert are just one example. Although their past was uncertain, their journey holds a promising future. Shortly after Sky was born, they came to us eager to provide a better life for their daughter. Robert obtained full-time employment and the family now provides encouragement and support to others as a host family in one of our emergency homes.
We are asking you to help us expand our reach even further this year. Your donation, no matter the size or frequency, has the potential to illuminate lives. Everyday, distressed yet hopeful parents come to us for a second chance at a better life. With your help, we can provide them with the tools they need to pave their own path to stability.
Together, we can light the way this holiday season.
No gift is too small, and it is never too late to make a lasting impression on another life. Just $25 can provide one night of shelter for a family, a day of basic needs for a child, or a medical and mental health assessment for a family.
