BENEFITING: International Rescue Committee
EVENT DATE: Nov 27, 2016
I'm half Syrian, with family that was still there when the revolution started. They lived in Homs, when that got too bad they fled to Ma'loula, a small village. That got attacked, and we haven't heard anything about our family there since. I have no idea what happened to them. And if you saw the drone flyover of Homs? That's where they lived. And it tells you everything about why people are fleeing, and why there's a refugee crisis.
I really wish I could help them. I really wish I could just DO something to help everyone over there - but I can't. But then I realized that the IRC was doing pretty much just exactly what I wish I could do - so I'm doing what I can to support the IRC. Almost everything donated goes directly do actually helping people that need it badly.
As for this show - the performers are volunteering (we'll do a hatpass at the show for them though!), the Phinney Center is sponsoring the show and donating the performance space, and I'm covering all costs out of pocket. We wanted EVERYTHING to go to help those who need it.
