my boy :'(
September 22, 2016

Well, it has been a sad week for Providing For Paws. This is our newest boy, a severely emaciated mastiff found on the streets of River Rouge. An animal control officer saw this boy attempting to walk down the street, but he was so weak that he just kept falling over. The officer picked him up and took him to River Rouge Animal Shelter. Rescue and emergency veterinary care were needed ASAP as this boy was dying quickly. Despite taking on Emma only yesterday (another medical case from River Rouge Animal Shelter), we knew we couldn't let him suffer any longer, so we agreed to take him on under Providing for Paws. Too unstable to make the trip to our regular emergency vet, Emergency Veterinary Hospital in Ann Arbor, we transported him to the nearest emergency veterinary center, Affiliated Veterinary Emergency Service. Here it was discovered that his temperature was only 82 degrees (a normal dog temperature is around 102 degrees), and he weighs only 52 pounds. Despite his critical condition, he still attempts to function and interact with people. We have named him Tyson, because he is such a fighter. Tyson currently remains at Affiliated Veterinary Emergency Service, where he is being warmed with heating water pads and a bear hugger. His temperature has reached 86 degrees, but that is still dangerously low. When he is stable enough for transport, he will be taken to EVH. Tyson has a LONG road to recovery ahead of him, and his medical costs will be significant. Even when stabilized, he will most likely require additional testing and imaging (such as an MRI), as he has a head injury. He will be hospitalized for quite some time, and even when released, he will require long-term care and rehabilitation. Please consider supporting our Tyson on his road to recovery and donating if you are able. We also are asking for many prayers and positive thoughts for Tyson, as he desperately needs them. Thank you for your support of Tyson. We cannot do what we do and help these animals without you!
