BENEFITING: Imagine Scholar Inc
Welcome Friends! I am launching a fundraising campaign to support talented students with big dreams. After my fundraising goal is achieved, I will travel to South Africa for one month and serve as a youth mentor for these scholars. The international development internship with Imagine Scholar will enable me to work directly with at-risk youth to teach them debate skills, host workshops on developing entrepreneurial skills, and provide career coaching.
We can fulfill the dreams of young scholars in South Africa with your support. My campaign aims to change the trajectory of young lives in the Nkomazi region of South Africa. I am proud to have this opportunity. Hope you'll join hands with me and change the lives of these inspiring youngsters!
Why Imagine Scholar?
We identify students who have the most potential, and the greatest desire to see and drive change. These talented young women and men have distinguished themselves in academics despite the limitations of their economic background. They represent the societal group most often left out, but have the most to offer. These young scholars have directly experienced the immense challenges of an isolated, rural upbringing, and understand the pressing need for improvement. About Imagine Scholar Imagine Scholar is a highly selective afterschool youth development program for ambitious secondary students across the disadvantaged Nkomazi region of South Africa. We cultivate future leaders by developing personal character, promoting critical thinking skills, enhancing communication abilities, and building community through service. While our scholars come from humble backgrounds, they have high aspirations and boundless drive. For that reason, Imagine Scholar strives to support students and their visions for change in any capacity. Ultimately, we offer talented youth the tools needed to bring about change for their future, and the future of their community.
What is my connection with Imagine Scholar?
As a first-generation American and daughter of Mexican immigrants, I am the first person in my family to graduate from high school and college. Before immigrating to the US, my parents were born in the village of San Juan del Rio, and abandoned their primary education as children in Mexico. In order to succeed as a student, I relied on personal drive, ambition, and the support of mentors. Similarly, the talented youth selected for the Imagine Scholar Program with humble backgrounds are hardwired with personal aspirations and fierce dedication, which is remarkable. On a personal level, I identify with these college-bound students who have the odds stacked against them. In spite of this, the students have the courage to pursue what they want more than anything – an education, and a better future for themselves and their community. I try to place myself in the shoes of high school students in Nkomazi, South Africa, and find myself hoping that someone heard my story and believed in me.
Help me let these students know that someone believes in them and their dreams. If you have any questions or comments, then please feel free to reach out via email: firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks a ton for being awesome! Love, Clara
