There are thousands of programs to assist single parents and families living in poverty. This is a beautiful thing. However, if you are a single person with no children and under retirement age it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get any help with bills. I found this out when trying to live on five hundred dollars a month. Yes, I said a MONTH. I had a part time job but couldn't manage to find anything else. I applied for every form of assistance I could possibly think of and got NOTHING. All I wanted was a little help, not a permanent ride. But since I was single with no children it was as though I didn't matter at all. The constant response I got was "Why don't you have children?" (which is frankly rude and none of anyone else's business) The point of this fundraiser is to help those in immediate need that have no other recourse. Because they do, in fact, matter.
