BENEFITING: THE IRONMAN FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Nov 17, 2013
This inaugural IRONMAN fundraising event, in partnership with The IRONMAN Foundation, will raise money for the Desert States Charitable Foundation. DONATE NOW and help us make a difference to children in need in the greater Tempe area.
The Desert States Charitable Foundation provides scholarships for higher learning and assists underprivileged children in the community. The Foundation also raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which funds medical research to find cures for blood cancers and provides assistance to families affected by leukemia, lymphoma, non-Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. The society's commitment to cutting-edge science has contributed to an unprecedented rise in survival rates for persons with these diseases.
On Nov. 17, athletes from all over the world will compete in Tempe, Ariz. for the prestige of becoming an IRONMAN.
This competition is not for the light-hearted. It is a grueling course that pushes the limits of the human body.
First, athletes will swim a 2.4 mile loop around the Tempe Town Lake, followed by a 112-mile bike loop through Tempe. Athletes will then run 26.2 miles and finish at Tempe Beach Park. Did we mention this all needs to be done in about 17 hours?
Mark DeVincentis, an executive with Crescent Capital and five-time IRONMAN finisher (U.S. Championship, World Championship in Hawaii), initiated this fundraiser for the Desert States Charitable Foundation to provide scholarships for higher learning and assist underprivileged children in the community.
Joining DeVincentis on this tremendous task to raise money for the charity is Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema, who represents Arizona’s 9th congressional district.
