THE STORY:
Hi everyone! I'm Jamie, and I'm running the NYC Marathon this November in support of iMentor, a wonderful organization that I've been proud to be a part of for the past two years.
iMentor pairs high school students in the New York City area with mentors in the professional world, and the pairs stick together for the duration of high school and the beginning of college. I meet with my awesome mentee, Jonathan, at least once a month during the school year, and we e-mail every week. Spending time with Jonathan, and watching him grow through the first two years of high school, has been an incredibly rewarding experience. I'm excited for his upcoming junior year, when we will start focusing on the college admissions process.
I hope you'll consider donating to this worthy cause. It will help a truly outstanding organization reach even more students and mentors. I'm also very excited to be running in my first marathon after many years of enjoying casual running. Thank you so much for your support!
ABOUT IMENTOR:
iMentor is excited to once again partcipate in the New York City Marathon! We will have five runners dashing through the five boroughs while supporting our organization.
iMentor builds mentoring relationships that empower first-generation students from low-income communities to graduate high school, succeed in college, and achieve their ambitions.
We partner with high schools in low-income communities, where a majority of students will be first-generation college students and match every student in a school with a college-educated mentor, who commits a minimum of three years to a single student. Mentoring pairs have the option to continue their relationship through college completion.
This year, iMentor is serving 3,500 students, our largest number of first-generation college students ever.
