I'm Gonna Be Runnin To Help the Ugandans
Organized by: Rebecca Phillips
On April 9th I'm going to run 13.1 miles my goal is to raise THIRTEEN HUNDRED and ONE DOLLARS in the process. I want you to help me make a future for girls who have little to no options when it comes to basic education. My friend Pauline lives in Uganda and she is an orphan who cannot afford to go to school. She and many girls like her have dreams of becoming lawyers, doctors, and teachers who can some day help others in their same situations. It costs $900 to send one student to school for a year that's room, board, food, clothes, books...the whole shebang (less than one month's rent in Los Angeles!) if everyone chips in $20, $10, or even $5 we can change the trajectory of someone's future and make our world a more positive place! I am really passionate about MICAO (Masaka Integrated Childcare and Advocacy Organization), a charity that my Aunt Susan Owens started after taking a trip to Masaka Uganda and seeing first hand not just poverty and desperation but the hope and opportunity to help other humans beings and make our planet just a tiny bit better. In our culture of consumerism and instant gratification it's so easy to get swept up in our "first world problems" (happens to me all the time!) Its nice to think of ideas like ending world hunger and every pageant contestants favorite response "world peace" but in this case it's not just an idea it's an actual opportunity to make a difference, to help someone who needs it, to BE THE CHANGE WE WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD. Ok, a little cheesy I know but I'm really excited and I hope you get excited too!
