UPDATE, A message from Amanda:
Hello all, thanks for your incredible support!
We have raised just over $10,000 USD! It is amazing and overwhelming. I just want to send an update on how the funds are being spent to get immediate relief out to people in Nepal:
Yesterday, we were able to distribute all $1,800 USD worth of supplies brought in from Europe to Sindhupalchowk, one of the hardest impacted districts, with thanks to the #WeHelpNepal crew. We were also able to convert and distribute the equivalent of $1,600 USD carried in cash for the purchase of more supplies for Sindhupalchowk, via #WeHelpNepal and our dear Lou Zhg's efforts to reach Jalbari VDC in Mantha 9 in the same district. These donations included medical supplies, food, water sanitization materials, and tarps--reported to be one of the most needed goods as it is still raining and all other supplies will get wet without them and shelter continues to be a pressing need. Furthermore, we were able to buy an addtional $1,000 USD worth of medical supplies in consultation with Teaching Hospital and for immediate distribution to communities in Nuwakot District through Jacob Wheeler, who is working with 415, an organization that arranged transportation, official escorts and received permission to operate from the Chief District Officer (CDO), and through the #WeHelpNepal crew. An additional $1,500 USD in was given to #WeHelpNepal. This is an important element because there are many raids of people desperate for more aid than can be provided and even people who are being denied entry to areas by local political leaders. We must now be conflict sensitive in the distribution of aid, which is very tricky; but working through people who have arranged safe distribution networks and have local connections on the ground mitigates this risk.
Finally, we purchased and distributed much needed food supplies via the Kathmandu Standards - Motorcycle Club to Shreen Mother Nepal's Disabled Association Children's Home in Nagarjung, where 37 children have been left homeless.
We are continually doing our best to leverage already existing initiatives, to avoid duplication and serve as a conduit between the generous donations from all of you and the people that are effectively converting that into immediate aid for the most vulnerable peoples in Nepal. A special thanks goes to Doctor Mohan Gurung who dedicated his whole day to connecting us with suppliers and advising on medicines, this despite having his own family to look after.
In sum, we've purchased and delivered $5,900 USD in aid for the impacted villages surrounding Nepal. We will continue to do purchase and distributed the goods orignially listed until the funds run out. Plans to reach other villages are already in motion for tomorrow. Will update then.
Again, thank you so much; there is immeasurable gratitude and love coming from us to each of you for your faith, support and solidarity. We couldnt do it without your generosity.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I need **immediate** funds to purchase emergency medical and relief supplies from France to bring to Nepal, on Wednesday.
The supplies I gather in France will be distributed to individuals and organizations on the ground in Sindupalchowk, Dhading, Kavre, and Lamjung districts. Transportation from Kathmandu is being mobilized and will be delivering supplies directly to those in need. The villages are devastated and have little access to services and assistance-- even less than Kathmandu.
We know the people on the ground and all supplies will go directly to the people. Funds donated will go directly to purchasing the following:
1. First Aid kits
2. Food: Rice, Daal, Biscuits, Noodles, Dry Nuts, Salt, Oil for cooking, and Kerosene
3. (Solar) lamps and torches
4. Water purifying tablets, chlorine, "piyush"
5. Tents/plastic sheeting
6. Sleeping bags/blankets
7. Gloves, masks, and other sanitary hygiene products
Thank you for your support and thoughts.
