What's this all about?
St. Brigid School will be starting its first chess team in school history. Grades 2-8 will be participating and the chess team will hopefully begin league play in February. The principal and I will be volunteering our time in coaching and teaching club members the game of chess. I'm definitely an amateur player, but I'm going to simply assume that I'll be introducing the game to the next Bobby Fisher. We've got very limited funds in our school...where most of the money we raise goes to our scholarship fund in order to give parents in the area an affordable, safe, and academically rich option. This year, 48% of our students receive some form of financial aid. Quite simply, we need money to be able to offer other enriching events and programs for our children. This is where you can come in...because even a little bit from you translates to a lot for our children.
How can you help?
A $25 donation lets us buy a chess set for the team.
A $50 donation lets us buy a chess set AND timer.
The more chess sets we can purchase, the greater our capacity will be to field a larger team and practice (without members having to wait until a game is finished to get some valuable practice time).
But of course, any dollar amount is truly appreciated!
How else can you help?
Spread the word! Feel free to email this link to anyone else who might be interesting in donating any amount.
We will also need volunteers to help coach our team. If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering, please don't hesitate contacting us!
