THE STORY:

Jo-Ann Kath, 71, went home with Jesus on August 14, 2016 with her family surrounding her at her home in Vancouver, Washington. She was diagnosed with Multiple Systems Atrophy-Cerebellar in the fall of 2013, after years of symptoms and searching for answers. Because of Jo-Ann’s amazing strength and spirit she continued to live life and counted her blessings daily despite her devastating disease. Jo-Ann was born in Westbrook, Maine to Gladys Hebert Meserve and Joe Meserve. Her parents soon divorced and Gladys moved home to West Buxton, Maine where Jo-Ann was surrounded by her large family. Her mother Gladys later married Colin Cass who was a wonderful father to Jo-Ann. Jo-Ann’s family moved to the San Fernando Valley when she was a teen. She graduated from Granada Hills Senior High School where she met her sweetheart, Dave Kath. They married on June 29, 1963. Jo-Ann then attended San Fernando Valley State College. Jo-Ann and Dave had two daughters, Rhonda and Lori. The family moved to Oregon in 1970 and settled in West Linn, Oregon. Jo-Ann created a home that was filled with love, laughter, friendship and great food. She welcomed everyone, the door was always open. She may have given birth to two daughters, but she was a second mom to countless others. Jo-Ann worked for the West Linn School District as a payroll clerk for fourteen years and then for sixteen years at the Clackamas County ESD in accounts payable and payroll where she made many lifelong friends. Jo-Ann and Dave moved to Damascus, Oregon in 1986 after their girls had graduated. They enjoyed remodeling their new home and creating beautiful gardens around the large property. This home was a haven for her, her family, friends, but especially so for her grandchildren. Jo-Ann was the best grandma, gram or G, as she is affectionately referred to by her grandchildren, Jennifer, Stephanie, Katie, Natalie, Thomas, Matt and great grandson Joey. She was loved very much by her many pets over her lifetime, Bear, her Australian Shepard is missing her already. Jo-Ann and Dave spent their winters in Sun City, Arizona. They enjoyed their neighborhood, the sunshine and the many visitors. In 2014, Jo-Ann and Dave sold their home in Damascus and moved to a smaller home in Vancouver, Washington. She was able to move around easier in this home and enjoyed being minutes from daughter Lori and her family. Sadly, Rhonda had to fight traffic, but there was always a glass of wine waiting! Jo-Ann was a fun, loving, giving woman who loved her family and friends immensely. Her glass was always full enough. Jo-Ann was full of faith, grace and gratitude. Her beautiful blue eyes always sparkled when she smiled. Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend will be greatly missed and will remain in our hearts forever. Jo-Ann Kath is survived by her husband Dave; her two children, Rhonda Zarosinski and her husband Rick with their children Katie, Natalie and Matt of Lake Oswego, Oregon; Lori Lampkin and her husband Tom, with their children Jennifer and her husband Joe, with their son Joey, Stephanie and Thomas of Vancouver, Washington; her brother Ted Meserve and his wife Angela of Scarborough, Maine; Her Uncle Harold Hebert and her Aunt Blanche Merriman of Maine; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and her lifelong best friend Mary Insolo. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Fairway Village Golf Course Club House, 15509 SE Fernwood Village drive, Vancouver, Washington 98683 on August 28th at 2:00 PM. I've loved Jo-ann since the second grade. She has always been in my thoughts and prayers. Sadly I planned to visit her and regret that I never made it. My heart is broken but I know that she is in the loving arms of Jesus. My thoughts and prayers are now with her family. 2 years ago
