THE STORY:

Ryan passed on January 5th at the young age of 31. Ryan and his wife, Shayna, spent everyday and every night in the hospital for a month with the company of their families and friends. He had been experiencing several different health issues for over a year and a half. Ryan and Shayna saw many specialists that were unable to determine the primary source of his illnesses or give them any answers. By the time he was transferred into ICU at UNC he was in MSOF Multi System Organ Failure with his liver shutting down, kidneys failing and on dialysis, intubated barely responsive. He passed due to an undetermined bacterial infection that very quickly manifested his organs and led to severe pancreatitis. He underwent a risky surgery to remove what the doctors felt was necessary of his pancreas. They removed over 3/4 of his pancreas and he made it through the surgery. Within two hours Ryan developed severe abdominal bleeding. The doctors came in and spoke with his wife and their families telling them that things were not looking good for Ryan. His wife and family were then faced with the decision to send him back into the OR with a high chance of not even making it through surgery and if he did it would buy him a maximum of two more days of life. He would be extremely uncomfortable and in an extreme amount of pain while still declining and unresponsive. Shayna had to determine what the more fair thing to do would be and what Ryan would have wanted for her. Either let him go in comfort and peace or keep him here and in excruciating pain for one more day just so she could have more time with him. Whichever she chose they told her he was going to pass. She chose that he deserved to not endure anymore pain and he should be comfortable. He was surrounded by so much love as close family and friends came in to be with him one last time. That is how he would have wanted to be remembered, he heard everything they said, they know that he did. His wife is not only dealing with the loss of the love of her life but her best friend too. She is left responsible to pay for all of his medical costs, a month total in the hospital, two of the weeks in ICU at UNC, several procedures, surgery and his funeral. No one at any age wants to have to go through such a tragic experience, especially a couple so young with an outcome that was completely unexpected. Shayna would appreciate any donations or any way to help her take care of these expenses. Thank you in advance.❤️
