Sadly, Alzheimer’s is a disease that has deeply touched both of our families. First with the loss of Hayley’s Grandmother, Rosalie Boswell Dornn Flynn, who passed away in December 2016 after suffering from the life shattering disease for over 10 years. Then in March 2018 we heartbreakingly lost Christopher’s mother, Carol Arata, to Alzheimer’s.
The recent passing of Carol has shook our family profoundly. The past several years have been excruciating, knowing all we could do is helplessly stand by while Carol slowly slipped away from the sweet, smart, amazingly loving wife, mother and grandmother the Arata family had known. Carol was absolutely blessed to have an extraordinary family who surrounded her with endless love and support until the very end. We wish more than anything that she could be with us on our big day, but know that Carol will always be watching down on us.
Alzheimer’s Disease is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States and as of 2018 affects 5.7 million Americans. 5.7 million only accounts for the patients suffering from the disease. It does not take into consideration the number of family members who are devastatingly affected by it. As of today Alzheimer’s is the only top 10 cause of death in the US that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed down. That needs to change. Immediately.
As a way to honor Carol and carry her into the start of our next chapter, we ask that you please help us support this fight for a cure by donating to the Alzheimer’s Association in Carol Arata’s name. The Alzheimer's Association advances research to end Alzheimer's and dementia while enhancing care for those living with the disease. Any amount can help make a difference!
