BENEFITING: Alzheimer's Association
EVENT DATE: May 07, 2016
On January 13, 2013 our beloved Grandmother was laid to rest. In the weeks and months leading up to her passing, we have some great memories of her and the time we spent with her. We laughed, we smiled, we cried, we got angry. There were times I remember, when I asked myself, why was this happening or what could I do to help her remember, to help her recall. When we looked back on the years leading up to the illness, we saw our vibrant, loving Grandmother become helpless to the disease that some of us know all too well. It consumes our loved ones and its difficult not just on the individual, but the family, their friends, and their loved ones.
We volunteer because it helps us fill that void, that thought of others suffering. We commit our resources because its a cause that is very near and dear to our hearts. We reach out to our friends, family and colleagues because its that awareness that will help us grow stronger and champion the efforts of the terrible disease we know as Alzheimer's. I still think back to the days that I would sit at my Grandmother's side and just stare into her eyes wondering if she remembered my name, who I was, all while she sat comfortably in her favorite chair. Deep down inside, I know she did and its that thought that keeps me going, that keeps our family going.
When they leave this world, we miss them and think of them, but when we think of them, we remember and must act. With the Alzheimer's Association and the Rita Hayworth Gala, that falls on Mother's Day every year in Chicago, this is how we act and do our part to make a difference. Join us in the fight to prevent Alzheimer's and support the Alzheimer's Association at this year's Rita Hayworth Gala.
The theme this year is "Time is of the Essence." Today is the tomorrow, we talked about yesterday.
Thank you for your support and best regards from the entire Valliani Family
