BENEFITING: LIVING KIDNEY DONORS NETWORK
EVENT DATE: Sep 10, 2016
Here is the next marathon and fundraiser. I am tackling a new topic this time - Organ Donation. My good friend Dana Nadeau donated a kidney to her brother in law and through her I learned about the statistics for Organ Donation. Over 120,000 people are awaiting life saving transplants, but each year, just over 27,000 transplants are performed. The lack of registered organ donors is responsible for 19 people dying each day while waiting for a transplant. A single deceased organ donor can save 8, or even 9, lives (heart, two lungs, two kidneys, one liver or a liver split into two pieces, pancreas, and intestines) and dramatically improve the lives of up to 50 people through tissue donation (corneas, skin, bone, etc.). Also, a healthy person can donate one kidney or a portion of liver to a friend or loved one. Becoming an organ donor is an extraordinary event. It is a miracle in the purest spiritual sense. So this marathon I run to raise $ and awareness...
