BENEFITING: ALEXS LEMONADE STAND FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Sep 20, 2015
Happy New Year! Starting off the Jewish Year 5776 with a marathon in West Virginia. Woo Hoo! Aspen and South Dakota marathons were so pretty and downhill that I am nervous because West Virginia doesn't look too scenic, it is hilly and I am going there ALONE. Bummer. But, I am running for a great cause this month as it is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. I saw a video on Facebook about Baby Mason which was very moving then I got an email from an old friend from work whose 6 month old grandson was starting chemo, then I met a woman at a wedding last weekend whose beautiful 20 year old daughter has been battling brain cancer for 10 years. UGH. 3 signs that I should raise money to help the fight!
In the U.S., 15,780 children under the age of 21 are diagnosed with cancer every year; approximately 1/4 of them will not survive the disease. A diagnosis turns the lives of the entire family upside down. The objective of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is to put a spotlight on the types of cancer that largely affect children, survivorship issues, and – importantly – to help raise funds for research and family support.
So I have chosen Alex's Lemonade Stand because it is devoted to research and was started by a young girl. Love the story. I hope you can support me but if the timing is bad, no worries, there will be another marathon next month - MAINE!
