The UN projects that over two million children and women are forced into sexual trafficking and they are victims of rape too. The NGO, Prajwala brings hope to these victims. Prajwala's  mission is to prevent, rescue, rehabilitate, reintegrate, and advocate for victims of sexual trafficking. Please view the video on this page to hear the founder of Prajwala, Dr. Sunita Krishnan's inspiring TEDex talk on galvanizing India’s battle against sexual slavery by uniting government, corporations and NGOs to end human trafficking.

India is Awakening

On December 16th, 2012 - Jyoti Singh Pandey was brutally gang raped by six men and 13 days later died as a result of the attack. This heinous crime brought India's rape crisis to the world's attention: the National Crime Records Bureau states every 22 minutes a rape occurs in India, while many go unreported.

Supporters for Jyoti, known as "India's brave heart" held vigils in her memory and demand change in India's rape laws and strict conviction of the accused to help reduce crime against women. As a nation and global citizens, we awakened to injustice towards women and united to support our sister. Yet, the outrage that we exhibit when a girl is gang-raped is not shared for the millions of women and children who are raped everyday for years in brothels across in the country. We conveniently close our eyes... until now.

Please join our movement - India is Awakening - to support organizations, such as Prajwala, crusading to end injustice towards women.
