BENEFITING: UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN
EVENT DATE: Mar 08, 2013
The world is full of information in every form imaginable: medical records, books, music recordings, graffiti, tapestries, you name it. But information that is not accessible or understandable is useless, it ceases to be information.
That is why students from the University of Michigan's School of Information are dedicating themselves and their spring break to INFORMATION ACCESS & LITERACY projects through the service-oriented learning experience known as Alternative Spring Break.
From working in Children’s Literature at the Library of Congress, to preserving radio shows for the Smithsonian. From helping with the Musical of the Month in New York City’s Library to a Historical Development for the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy, students involved in ASB are using technology and the skills they’ve gained at the University of Michigan to give back.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Donating to ASB allows students like us an experience unlike most typical Spring Break vacations. Here students LEARN about ourselves and gain REAL WORLD opportunities to implement the SKILLS we are currently learning in the classroom! We are providing a valuable service to nonprofit organizations by providing them with necessary services they may not be able to obtain without help from organizations like U of M. Between the connections made with working professionals and our involvement in practical real world projects, students are better equipped to enter the work place and cause an immediate impact in whatever community we find themselves.
WHERE DO STUDENTS GO FOR THEIR INTERNSHIPS?
During the University’s Spring Break in March, students involved in ASB will travel to New York City, Washington DC, Chicago and Detroit. ASB challenges students to...
- Bring an impact to the community through service to an organization and its constituents.
- Develop professional skills through immersive, experiential projects.
- Build a foundation to become a socially-engaged information professional.
WHAT DOES ASB DO FOR STUDENTS?
ASB allows students to gain real world experience while helping with social projects that help not only the graduate students get involved, but advocates social outreach and relationships within those communities.
During Spring Break, ASB helps the students by providing transportation and boarding for the week long experience. But, as a non-profit, ASB needs your financial help to continue this unique and helpful opportunity for graduates to better prepare themselves for life after school. Philanthropy through ASB is the way to be.
SO PLEASE HELP BY DONATING!
The cost for ASB is extremely high, and every little bit helps. Without your contribution, ASB can not continue to help future classes of students. We aren't asking for you alone to shoulder the burden of these high costs, just a few dollars will help ensure ASB's success.
PLEASE GIVE WHAT YOU CAN, IF YOU CAN.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AND DONATION!
