BENEFITING: UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN
ORGANIZER: Team Information Access &
EVENT DATE: Mar 08, 2013
Did you know that the University of Michigan School of Information (UMSI) provides an Alternative Spring Break option for their graduate students, which allows them to volunteer a week to an external organization (e.g., nonprofit, educational/cultural institution)? It's true! Because of this amazing opportunity, students (like me) can give back to the community by providing our current professional skill sets to help organizations with special projects that would benefit their patrons, clients, or students.
I am currently working towards a Master of Science in Information, with a specilization in Library and Information Science. Because of my background and current field of study, I have been selected to assist the Library of Congress' Children's Literature Section during my spring break, March 4th - March 8th. I'm very excited about this opportunity! During my stay, I will help the Children's Literature Section verify that all manual records have been updated onto their online catalog system. Because of my help, the Library of Congress will be able to better serve their patrons, which include children, teens, and adults of all ages.
If you can appreciate the importance of community service, community enrichment, and community literacy, then please take this time to donate towards the cause. The University of Michigan School of Information needs your help to make Alternative Spring Break a reality for its students, so we can give back to the community.
- The ASB program costs $45,000 to run every year, that pays for lodging and transportation only, none of the overhead costs.
- By helping to raise this money, it will ensure that programs like this will thrive in the future, enabling students like me to continue to help the community during ASB and beyond.
Any amount you can donate will help me reach my $500 goal, which will help subsidize my lodging and travel expenses, and put me that much closer to funding this beneficial opportunity. ASB is a 501(c)3, which means any money you give is 100% tax deductible!
Thank you so much for your time and consideration!
