BENEFITING: Connecticut Community Foundation Inc
EVENT DATE: Oct 06, 2013
There are few people that know you for your WHOLE life, from your very first breath. My first memories include Dawn Lafferty Hochsprung as my sister's best friend. We spent our early childhood together. Our families grew together. We went on vacations together. Although, Dawn's family moved to Connecticut when she was in middle school, our families and my sister's friendship with Dawn remained close for many years.
On December 14, 2012 the tragedy of Sandy Hook Elementary shook the nation. Twenty children and six staff members were taken that day. Dawn Lafferty Hochsprung, was the heroic principal whose life was cut short by a gunman as she protected the school, students, and staff, she so dearly loved.
The events that unfolded that day shocked and affected every person differently. Learning that our lifelong friend was involved was even more heartbreaking.
I have been running for most of my life. I have done two marathons before and vowed that I would never do one again. Until this...
It seemed fitting to create a fundraiser that for each mile run, one of the victims will be remembered. The 26th mile will be dedicated to my friend, Dawn Lafferty Hochsprung.
The Dawn Lafferty Hochsprung Memorial Fund has been created to benefit students from Dawn's hometown high school who are planning to pursue a career in education. This fund is administrated by The Connecticut Community Foundation.
Please consider donating to the Dawn Lafferty Hochsprung Memorial Fund as I run this race to honor Dawn.
