BENEFITING: INITIATIVE TO EDUCATE AFGHAN WOMEN
ORGANIZER: INITIATIVE TO EDUCATE AFGHAN WOMEN
EVENT DATE: Nov 25, 2014
"There is no better investment in longterm peace and prosperity in the world than the education of girls and women."
My name is Daniel O'Brien and I am currently a senior at URI studying in both the Psychology and Communications departments. This semester I am enrolled in COM310, which is focused on working along side a local non-profit organization known as "The Initiative to Educate Afghan Women".
The Initiative is a small grassroots 501 (c)3 non-profit, meaning all of its revenue comes from donations. It is the Initiatives mission to raise money that can then be used to provide the opportunity for Afghan women to receive a college education here in the United States. These educated women will be Afghanistan’s next generation of women leaders.
Since the Initiatives founding 10 years ago, 89 women have received full four-year scholarships from 21 different colleges. It is the Initiatives goal to build on these numbers, but that cannot happen without your help.
