BENEFITING: Humane Society of The United States
My great uncle, Bud, never had children of his own. As a young man, he fell in love with a young lady and there was talk of them marrying. When his elderly father passed away suddenly, it was up to him to care for his widowed mother. Not wanting his young love to have to endure the hard life of farm work and knowing she quietly yearned for a different lifestyle, he tearfully broke of the engagement. When asked years ago what ever happened to her, he broke down and slowly revealed that his sweetheart did eventually marry someone else. Tragically, this new man was not kind and she endured much abuse until one day he ended her life. Heartbroken, he didn't date anyone seriously even after his moms passing and moving to the big city. It wasn't until his 50s did he meet a lovely woman named, Dot, who became his bride. Although they never had children, they had many dogs through the years that they treated just as such. They generously donated to shelters and the Humane Association through the years. Several years ago, Dot passed away after a battle with cancer. Bud was left alone with his beloved dog, Misty. They quickly became even more inseparable. He always made sure she had he special made meatloaf on hand and her "beautician" appts scheduled for house visits for her haircuts and nail trims. Even as his vision started failing at 92, he persisted in caring the best he could for his best friend. Today, Bud is 95, and this past week, he had to take Misty in to be put down after he lost mobility in her back legs and stopped eating and drinking. He refused to wait in the vet waiting room and instead sat in the car petting Misty until my mother came out to let him know they were ready. He is heartbroken. At 95, he has very few friends left, no kids, his wife is passed and now his best friend. I really just want to show him that there are many people out there who care for him and understand his grief. I am asking for people to make a donation to the Humane Society of the United States in Bud and Misty's name. If you don't have any money to donate, a quick note that we could read to him would make a big difference as well. Thank you so much for your kindness and words!
