A HUGE thank you to everyone so far. Your generosity warms our hearts! Karen would be blown away by all of your support and love, as are we. See More

THE STORY:

In lieu of flowers, the Coleman family requests donations.

Please choose one or more of the following charities that serve causes that were dear to Karen. Please specify in your donation comment the charit(ies) of choice:

  1. Urban Farming: The Urban Farming™ mission is to create an abundance of food for people in need by supporting and encouraging the establishment of gardens on unused land and space while increasing diversity, raising awareness for health and wellness, and inspiring and educating youth, adults and seniors to create an economically sustainable system to uplift communities around the globe.
  2. PAWS Chicago: PAWS Chicago is the city's largest no kill humane organization, focused on implementing solutions to end the killing of homeless pets. Since PAWS Chicago's founding in 1997, the number of homeless dogs and cats killed annually has dropped more than 60 percent: from more than 42,000 homeless pets killed in 1997 to under 18,000 killed in 2011. PAWS Chicago is working to build a no kill Chicago - a city where pets are no longer destroyed just because they are homeless. PAWS Chicago will find new homes for more than 5,000 homeless pets this year at the state-of-the-art Lincoln Park Adoption & Humane Center. The PAWS Chicago Lurie Spay/Neuter Clinic, the largest free spay/neuter clinic in Chicago and the nation, will sterilize more than 18,000 pets of low-income families this year.
  3. Ocean Discovery Institute: Ocean Discovery Institute empowers urban and diverse young people to protect our ocean and natural environment, improve the health of our communities, and strengthen our quality of life. Founded in 1999, we were created to leverage San Diego's natural environments as a means to engage young people from underserved communities and inspire them to become part of the next generation of scientific and environmental leaders. We spearhead a series of initiatives that incorporate education, scientific research, and environmental stewardship. Currently these initiatives reach 5,000+ low-income students and community members each year. All of our programming is provided tuition-free.

If you would prefer, or if you do not specify a charity, the donation will go to Karen's family.

Thank you for your support and for touching Karen's life,
Mike, Becki, and Brian
