On Thursday January 8th, 2015, Rosalba Fabian passed away peacefully in her home with Mario and Leann Fabian. Born with profound mental disability, Rosalba led a very difficult life.
During the past 30 years I've had the great fortune of having Mario and his family in my life. I witnessed over and over again how Mario Sr., Amartina and Mario Jr. lovingly took care of Rosalba's needs. For years while the Fabians owned the Diaz Market on Ponce De Leon, they would take Rosalba to work with them and watch her carefully. She was never more than a few feet away. They bathed her, fed her, dressed her, and nursed her as you would a newborn for 56 years. As the years passed and caring for her became more difficult and they became more patient and dedicated. Never once did I hear any of the Fabian's utter a complaint. Quite the contrary, they always said everything was fine with a smile.
From the Fabian's I learned what it truly is to accept God's will and embrace it. The unconditional love they all gave Rosalba gave us a great example of what being a truly selfless parent and brother is like.
I've always admired Mario and his family for their strength and stoicism. As this difficult journey comes to an end, I ask that you please keep the Fabians in your thoughts and prayers. In lieu of flowers a contribution to the memorial fund to assist with funeral costs will be greatly appreciated.
