Dogfest is our Fall fundraiser at the Brookings Regional Humane Society. The funds go directly toward helping homeless, unwanted animals. Wellington/Welly was one of those unwanted animals. The day I adopted her she was going to be euthanized, at another shelter, because she had mange.
Welly was a part of our family for 12 years. She went everywhere with me from day one. Then when I lost my Vestibular system she became my balance, and helped me learn to stand and walk again. She became my service dog in 2008, never leaving me side until she had to retire last year. She made it possible for me to travel and live in Europe, flying the Transatlantic route many times, her picture being taken by many. She was such a beautiful soul. She was spoiled by so many, too, when she stayed with me in the hospital for weeks at a time, during CF lung exacerbations. She loved Room Service, and the bowls of ice that the nurses brought her, as well as all the love they, the respiratory therapists and the doctors gave her. She was loved by all that knew her. There will never be another Wellington, my Welly.
But, there are so many like Welly. Please consider giving to help those that just need to be given a chance. A chance at life.
