BENEFITING: Inner-City Scholarship Fund, Inc.
Inner-City Scholarship Fund provides tuition assistance to disadvantaged students from low-income families attending inner-city Catholic schools, making a values-based Catholic education a viable choice for all children, their parents and guardians. ICSF is also able to supplement education received with a variety of enrichment programs to benefit the more than 33,000 children attending 74 elementary and 18 high schools it supports. We provide direct tuition assistance to more than 9,000 students each year and enrichment opportunities for students. Additionally, ICSF provides capital grants to individual schools to ensure safe and secure learning environments for these children.
ICSF is dedicated to serving those children and families that live at or below the poverty line. In order to receive services our students must attend a Catholic school of the Archdiocese of New York with inner-city status. In order to receive this status over 51% of the students must be living at or below the poverty line. Currently more than 33,000 students attend 92 schools located in Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island. Close to 70% of ICSF students live near or below the federal poverty line and more than 50% come from single-parent households. Our student body is diverse: 94% are minorities and 36% non-Catholic. For a substantial percentage of students, English is not their first language.
ICSF students represent ethnic diversity: 53.69% are Hispanic, 29.98% are African American, 7.2% are White, 4.21% are Asian, 3.29% are multiracial, 0.24% are of Pacific Island ancestry, 0.18% are Native American and the remaining 1.26% are of other backgrounds.
