The Launch It! Summer Workshop is a 3 week program beginning on August 9 and ending on August 26. Accepted students will get training at our office on 4 evenings (between 6:45 to 7:45pm on Tuesday August 9, Tuesday August 16, Tuesday August 23, and Thursday August 25) on key social enterprise & community organizing topics (leadership & entrepreneurship, project planning, project implementation, marketing/social media, and project evaluation) as well as take part in phone conferences and e-mail communication to measure progress. At the same time, participants will be applying these topics to prepare to launch a project.
We have partnered with Malaria No More, and so the project students will be working on – that will be held on August 26th – is Malaria No More’s 99NetNites initiative. The 99NetNites initiative was launched in order to realize the goal of stopping malaria deaths in Africa by 2015. One of the tools that’s helping Malaria No More get there is mosquito nets to protect families from malarial mosquitoes.
On August 26th, students will have planned and launched a fundraising dinner at T.G.I. Friday’s (students get a complimentary dinner), and proceeds will go to the 99NetNites initiative.
By the completion of the program, participants will have gained an intimate understanding of the nuts and bolts of how to launch a project, gained entrepreneurial and leadership skills, and made a community impact.
