BENEFITING: TIZIANO PROJECT
EVENT DATE: Aug 05, 2011
“In Our Own Words: Life, Culture, and News from Iraqi Kurdistan” will be a photography and multimedia exhibition of the work of our twelve students from Iraqi Kurdistan and the four professional mentors that taught them during the Summer of 2010.
The “360° Kurdistan” (http://360.tizianoproject.org/) is a documentary initiative by The Tiziano Project, which provides new media tools and training to community members in conflict, post-conflict and developing regions. The project presents the journalistic efforts and personal accounts of Iraqi citizens living in the Kurdish north including Arabs, Kurds, and Assyrians. The immersive website and exhibition strive to provide viewers with a robust and complete understanding of life, culture and news in present-day Iraqi Kurdistan.
This multimedia exhibition will feature original photographs, essay stories, videos, personal profiles of Iraqi student reporters and their mentors, and dedicated computer stations enabling a fully interactive and personalized experience (complete with videoconference sessions to our Iraqi students). This unique exhibition is an example of storytelling as an art form, where the narrative is expressed and controlled by Iraqis and not filtered through the Western media.
The exhibit is set to open at the Iraqi Cultural Center in Washington DC on August 5, 2011, however, we currently need to raise $3,000 to make it a reality.
The costs breakdown as follows:
$1,500 - 16 16x24 Prints with Mounting
$1,000 - 15 Digital Picture frames for displaying student video pieces
$300 - Headphones
$200 - Additional information panels, mounting, etc
Please help bring the voices of our students to light!
