Love for Lewa's Big Cats Photo

The Story

They are fierce and brave. But they still need our help to survive. Predators are nature's best hunters and remain some of Africa's most fascinating animals.

Lewa works directly with communities to find solutions so that both humans and wildlife can coexist successfully.

The key to Lewa's success in protecting endangered and vulnerable species is its  mutual trust and support of local communities that come into conflict with vulnerable predator populations and call on Lewa to assist.

On Lewa and around Lewa, predators help promote biodiversity and balance the ecosystem, leading to a thriving environment. Many of Kenya's iconic predator populations including cheetah, lion, vultures and wild dog have seen unprecedented declines because of human population increases which lead to more human wildlife conflicts. The result is loss of habitat from rapidly expanding human populations, combined with persecution by humans.

Lewa is committed to finding solutions that will lead to stabilizing declining predator populations. Supporting Lewa's In Praise of the Predator Campaign will keep predators like the majestic lion from disappearing completely from the Kenyan landscape. The key to Lewa's success in protecting endangered and vulnerable species is its  mutual trust and support of local communities that come into conflict with vulnerable predator populations and call on Lewa to assist.
