Hey Everyone! Thank you for visitng my page. My name is Darlene and I am the Office Coordinator at InsideOUT Writers (IOW), a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that provides creative writing classes inside Los Angeles County Juvenile halls, select Probation Camps, and in Ironwood and Chino State Prison. IOW also offers what is called the Alumni Program to former students once they are released from custody. Reentry services and support are provided as a means for our alums to recover from past mistakes and move forward in life. For all details about InsideOUT Writers, I invite you to visit our website at www.insideoutwriters.org.
I've never ran a Marathon before and honestly, at 33 yrs old, I'm completely out of shape. But I decided to run and raise money for this organization because I love what IOW embodies. I was once a student of IOW when I was incarcerated at 16 years old and I know from first hand experience how writing impacted my individual growth. Writing carried me through fighting a Life sentence, and it carried me through the 2 years I spent incarcerated. Putting pen to paper is more than just jotting your thoughts and emotions down, it's healing, it's hope and it's believing we are more than just a number, more than just our crime, and more than just a throw away kid.
My heart beats strong for the young people and community we are serve so, I have complete faith my legs will carry me through. I run for the youth inside, I run for the youth coming home, I run for the ones who have lost their lives to violence. I run for my husband and three children. Please support me by sponsoring me or by joining the InsideOUT Writers team.
