BENEFITING: INDEPENDENCE ACADEMY OF INDIANA INC
A school created by and for Families affected by Autism
Susan LeVay and Ruth Padgett, mothers of sons with high-functioning autism, shared a vision of a school they could not find anywhere in Indianapolis. They envisioned a school that would challenge students academically without overwhelming them and incorporate necessary life and social skills every day. Through their vision, The Independence Academy was created.
The Independence Academy is a state accredited, private non-profit day school for students with autism. These amazing students have tremendous potential when given the right support. The Academy opened its doors in 2008 and has steadily grown year to year.
Our students thrive in an atmosphere of acceptance and encouragement, where they learn to hone their strengths and overcome their challenges. The Independence Academy enrolls students who are in grades 5-12. With a very small student-teacher ratio (6 to 1), and trained educators who are passionate about teaching students with autism, students make progress in a caring and encouraging environment. Many make friends for the first time and look forward to going to school.
Our graduates have all gone on to higher learning or jobs where they are making a meaningful contribution to our community, and we are extremely proud of them. The Independence Academy offers both support and understanding, not just to students, but to the entire family.
Please help support the only school in the Midwest that is solely dedicated to serving students with high-functioning autism. We are trying to raise funds to provide student scholarships, much-needed technology, essential academic programming and establish a building fund.
Why do we need your help? Our current tuition doesn't begin to cover all the costs of operating and maintaining a school like ours, which provides such a low student-to-teacher ratio. Your donation will help us continue to meet the needs of a growing number of families who don't know where else to turn but have found a place to belong in our unique learning community.
We are deeply grateful for your support and will use it to help our students work to reach their potential. Thank you in advance for your contribution and for being a part of the solution for children who desperately need the support that our unique school offers.
