OUR WORK

Traditional human rights work focuses on fact-finding and after-the-fact investigation of offenses where often the damage is already done.  History is now begging the human rights movement to assert itself more aggressively: we can and must work to stop these abuses before they occur.   This is what IBJ is doing, every day, throughout the world.

For more than ten years, IBJ has been building the movement to protect due process rights and end investigative torture.  We are opening doors in justice systems, providing the accused with competent lawyers as early in the legal process as possible, and guaranteeing everyone the right to a fair trial.

But we we’ve only just begun.

Please join us on our journey to bring justice to every man woman and child worldwide.

OUR MISSION

International Bridges to Justice (IBJ) is dedicated to ensuring the basic legal rights of ordinary citizens throughout the world. Specifically, IBJ works to guarantee all citizens the right to competent legal representation, the right to be protected from cruel and unusual punishment, and the right to a fair trial.

In recent years, 93 of 113 developing countries that practice torture have taken a strong stance in favor of human rights by signing international conventions and adopting domestic laws that safeguard the rights of ordinary citizens. Regrettably, many of these laws remain unenforced due to a lack of resources and training. These critical gaps have allowed torture to continue unchecked as the cheapest most expedient form of investigation.
