Help us to provide for young men and women an alternative to the streets
July 12, 2016
Established in 2006, Integrity Mentors is a non-profit mentoring program that impacts the lives of at-risk young men and women by helping to instill faith-based principles into their everyday way of life. The Founder and Executive Director of Integrity Mentors, Lawrence Marshall, now a proud husband and father, grew up in a violent and unsafe neighborhood, where gunfire and fighting were frequent occurrences.
Graduating with no goals, no aspirations, and headed back to street life, it was not until a mentor saw potential in him and began to work with him that he turned his life around and pursued a BS degree in Industrial Technology at Langston University. Young people need guidance to help them make good decisions. How will teens learn to be responsible, caring adults if they have no role model? How will they avoid making mistakes that can have harmful effects on their life? How can they use their knowledge, talents, and skills to transform the world? Integrity Mentors recognizes the need for consistent, positive role models, in the lives of young men and women, especially those being raised in single-parent households.
The mentoring program provides one-on-one much-needed leadership and personalized support for youth ages 12-18, focusing on academic learning, spiritual growth, self-confidence, and respect for self and others. Integrity Mentors works closely with the parent and teacher of the mentees to establish personal and trustworthy relationships.
Objectives of the program are to:
1. Conduct comprehensive background checks on mentors, train and assign them to one-on-one relationships with youth
2. Provide out-of-school academic enrichment activities and tutoring aligned with in-school curriculum
3. Expose youth to enlightening and engaging field trip experiences, including visits to colleges, businesses, and corporations
4. Provide counseling resources and workshops for parents
The vision of Integrity Mentors is to inspire, equip, coach and empower young men and women to lead lives of integrity - being encouraged by God's plan for their lives. Jeremiah 29:11 says “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. With your help we can recruit additional mentors, engage participants in more experiences that enhance their education and life choices, and expand our out-of-school-time academic programming to ensure in-school educational success. With your help, Integrity Mentors can give young people hope and a future.
