All of the IRC in Oakland’s summer term interns are banding together to raise crucial funding that will help provide flexible programming to newly arrived refugees. This country isn't full of people who want to build a wall. We are a diverse, accepting, loving country. At least, that is the country we want to continue to build, even if we aren't there yet. We are a country of immigrants, a country of people, many of whom left their homes in search of a better future. Let's do our part to support the most recent arrivals among us and set them up for success in their new home. If you’ve been following the news about the refugee crisis, but have been unsure how you can help, this is your opportunity.
There are currently 65 million refugees around the world. Last fiscal year, Oakland resettled 425 refugees from Afghanistan, Burma, the Congo, Eritrea, and Syria, just to name a few. Help welcome them by making a gift to our intern fundraising campaign that will benefit the International Rescue Committee! Your gift will help the IRC provide important programming beyond basic resettlement, including financial coaching, career development, nutrition education, community gardening, so refugees can rebuild stable, productive lives in the U.S.
