International Stuttering Awareness Day in Central Park
Organized by: Roisin McManus
October 25, 2016
EVENT DATE Oct 23, 2016
Studies suggest that around 1% of population stutters. That means there are at least 80,000 people who stutter in New York City alone! This difference is widely misunderstood and many of us go to greath lengths to hide it from the world. We think stuttering is more than okay and people who stutter have wayy too much to say for them to suffer in silence or shame. The volunteer-run NYC Chapters of the National Stuttering Association host support groups, conferences and social events to help bring people who stutter community and empowerment. On Sunday, October 23rd from 11AM-4PM, we are hosting an awareness and pride raising event in Central Park in celebration of International Stuttering Awareness Day. We will be posted up at the Columbus Circle entrance in the southwest region of the park with informational handouts, personalized statements and snacks. We are hosting a modest fundraiser to cover the costs of printing, food and supplies. Any support is so greatly appreciated and thank you for helping us do what we do!
