elevating the the need for adequate housing and basic services for cities in the developing world.

Today more than one billion people live in urban slums, in deplorable living conditions without regular access to safe or affordable drinking water, toilets, sewage facilities, or electricity. In poverty-stricken areas around the world, addressing the problem of urban slums is vital to ensuring economic prosperity and security in the future, and adequate housing is foundational to that goal.

The International Housing Coalition (IHC) is a 501(c)(3) membership organization formed in 2005 to elevate the issue of adequate housing in the developing world with particular attention on slums. The IHC, representing its founding sponsors and 38 member organizations, stands alone as a voice dedicated to raising awareness of adequate housing and slums in the developing world.

The IHC’s work is primarily accomplished through:

• Advocacy through direct contact with members of Congress and Congressional staff and with US government agencies and multilaterals;

• Educational initiatives on the need for adequate housing, especially within slums,

• Sharing best practices on key issues

• Producing publications on issues related to adequate housing and the issues impacting slums;

• Convening decision makers, practitioners, and thinkers to share ideas;
