BENEFITING: INTERNATIONALIST BOOKS INC
Internationalist Bookstore & Community Center is a cooperatively owned, volunteer run social center that has served the Chapel Hill and Carrboro community for over 30 years. The store was founded in 1981 by political activist Bob Sheldon. Originally founded to provide alternative information during the anti-apartheid movement in the 80s, the Internationalist has become a center of activism, political discussion, creative grassroots organizing, and a space which brings together people of all ages, sexual orientation, ethnic background, political beliefs and gender identity. Internationalist Books provides new and used books and magazines on diverse subjects from beat literature to gay and lesbian fiction, alternative health to political theory and environmental sustainability. We specialize in hard to find, alternative, underground, small press, independent, and nontraditional literature
Now, we are asking for the public to help us continue our role in the community by helping us fund moving to a new space that will better serve the public. We must raise money in order to renovate our supplies of literature, replace damaged bookshelves (from flooding), and move into a space that not only does not flood but will be more useful as a social center. Please help us to continue our work.
