International Medicine Interest Group: Ethiopia Trip
Team Member: Jasmine Ginn
EVENT DATE Jun 09, 2016
Hello, and thanks for visiting my profile!
Myself, along with 12 of my peers, have been chosen to partake in a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel to Gondar, Ethiopia this summer, where we will be shadowing healthcare providers at the University of Gondar Hospital, assisting in providing medical care to local citizens, and donating much needed medical supplies to the facility. With this comes the opportunity to gain cultural awareness, give back to the community, and gain exposure to medical issues that may not be as common here in the US. I believe that all of these factors will enhance our worldview on medicine, ultimately helping us to be better physicians, no matter where we decide to practice in the future.
Although 3 weeks seems like a short stay, I am confident that the students of HUCM will make a profound impact while abroad. As many of those selected, including myself, will be making a transition into our third year of medical school this year, which consists primarily of clinical rotations, this trip will also allow us to be pre-exposed to clinical medicine, which will help ease the transition from the classroom into the hospital.
Although we are dedicated to volunteering our time, it does come at a price, so I am asking for donations to help offset the costs of my trip, which is estimated to be $3,500- $4,000, as well as prayers of peace and safe travels for my peers and myself. A donation of any amount, prayer, or share of my information is greatly appreciated!
With peace and love,
