INTREPID COLLEGE PREPARATORY INCORPORATED wrote -
The Intrepid Roadrunners are running the 2014 Country Music Marathon on Saturday, April 26th to support the prepsters of Intrepid College Prep. Last year, we raised $4,584, which allowed us to build our 5th grade in classroom library.
This year, we're raising $10,000 to fund a Prepster Support Fellow. A Prepster Support Fellow is a graduate student with a specialty in Special Education that makes a yearlong commitment to close the achievement gap by teaching students using data-driven interventions. We are committed to 100% of our students succeeding on the path to college and this commitment requires additional supports for students that are furthest behind academically.
Intrepid College Prep, a Nashville charter school, offers a tuition-free education that prepares students for success in selective colleges.
OUR JOURNEY SO FAR
We opened our doors on July 30, 2013 to our first class of 84 fifth graders. Our team of Blue Chip Teachers, prepsters and families have made a tremendous commitment to excellence by building a school that operates 7:30 - 5:00 Monday - Thursday and 7:30 - 2:00 p.m. on Fridays during a 190 day school year. By the end of middle school, our prepsters will have received an additional year of schooling compared to their peers in traditional Nashville public schools. Our prepsters have worked so hard consistently. Now that we're at the halfway point of our first year, we've already gotten some early data from our partnership with the Achievement Network, which provides Common Core aligned assessments that are predictive of success on TCAP, to suggest that our 5th grade prepsters have had the highest achievement in ELA among charter schools in Nashville and Memphis and that our growth in Math is consistent with the growth of high-performing charter schools in Nashville and Memphis as well. We use that kind of data to inform and improve our instruction and we look forward to the opportunity to keep closing the achievement gap in the second half of the year. In 2014-2015, we will expand to 5th and 6th grade.
Intrepid College Prep maintains a strong commitment to sustainability. Our schools will operate on the public dollar at full enrollment. In the near term, we need your support to supplement public funding.
In the start-up phase of a school, operations support is critical. Given many one-time expenses and initially low levels of enrollment, the per-pupil cost of running a school is higher in the early years. In order to provide our prepsters with a consistently stellar educational program from the day the school opens, we hire Blue Chip Teachers and Leaders and invest in our entire program as if it were operating at full capacity.
Intrepid College Prep equips every prepster and scholar in grades five through twelve with the academic foundation, financial literacy, and ethical development necessary to excel in selective colleges, earn professional opportunities, and demonstrate positive leadership.
Educated within our seamless 5-12 school, Intrepid College Prep alumni are prepared to enter, succeed within, and graduate from college. Our scholars graduate from our academic program ready to compete globally in the 21st century, armed with the academic knowledge, financial literacy, entrepreneurship and leadership skills needed to make smart choices in the future and have positive impact in their community.
In order to achieve our twin goals of closing the academic achievement gap and intergenerational wealth gap in this community, we need your help.
