EVENT DATE Jul 15, 2014
I write to extend warmest greetings and to kindly ask for your financial support to enroll at University of Mount Olive. I am fortunate to have been accepted at University of Mount Olive to major in Computer Information System for the 2014-2015 academic year. University of Mount Olive is a school in Mount Olive, North Carolina, USA. It has offered me an excellent financial aid leaving me with the sum of $6,760.00 for a semester.
During one of our conversations, the admission officer assured me that if I perform well, I can have an increment in the scholarship awarded. She also told me that there are on campus jobs available to enable international students cater to their personal needs. All I need now is $6,760.00 to start which my family cannot afford.
I am from a family of nine: three sisters, two brothers and a cousin. My father is a high school teacher whose salary of a little more than $300.00, he is our major means of sustenance. My mother serves at home.
The rest of us either sell assorted goods or do odd jobs to help in the maintenance of the family. But this is not enough; I need to do more for my family and country. This is why I need this scholarship.
However, as my parents cannot afford to underwrite this cost, I am afraid I will not be able to enroll. Hence, I am appealing to your kind heart to please help me realize my dream of studying Computer and Information System at the University of Mount Olive to be of more relevance to my country.
Over the years, I have continually made myself serviceable to my country and my community. I volunteered with Madame Mary Broh on several occasions to clean the city center of Monrovia. At present, I am one of the leaders of the voluntary group in my community. The first Saturday of every month we meet and take up project in our community. We help sweep, paint, cut grass and fill pop holes on our streets. We believe that a hygienic environment is what any community can wish for.
At home, I provide free tutorial in Mathematics to junior and senior high school students in my community. I guide them and encourage them to do their homework and other assignments. I always encourage them, by reminding them that Mathematics is important in every aspect of life: from cooking to working in the bank.
Additionally, I volunteer to help register U.S citizen at the U.S embassy in Liberia.
My dream is to teach Computer Information System at our state university (University of Liberia), where it is presently not offered. I believe that this will give every Liberian youth with the passion for Computer Information System, the opportunity to realize his/her dream to the fullest. Over the years, I have noticed that my country lacks computer scientists, hence expatriates are taken from neighboring countries when we the youth have the potential of becoming great professionals in this field. This is why I am asking your kind heart to please help me enroll at University of Mount Olive so that I can learn and be empowered to return home and meaningfully help in the rebuilding process of our country in providing services in this area.
Thanks you so much for your assistance.
