THE STORY:

The short story: I'm trying to purchase 4 iPads (which are excellent educational resources) for my wonderful students to use in our TK classroom. Please consider donating an old iPad, selling your old iPad to me, or donating money (anything helps)!

The long story: Hi everyone! My name is Rachel Axelrad and I am a Transitional Kindergarten Teacher. I teach in a Title 1 School in South Los Angeles meaning we are a low-income school that struggles to come by resources. I have twenty extremely kind, thoughtful, inquisitive, sweet, adorable four year olds in my room. Many of them know all too well the trials and tribulations of growing up in poverty, of discrimination, of systemic, structural, inequity, and of trauma...despite their young age. Thus, I work very hard to ensure that Room 24 is a safe space. A space to explore, to learn, to create, to love and to be loved, and to allow our natural curiosity to guide us. Each day, my students are excited to come to school and eager to learn. I am incredibly proud of what we've created in our room because we work very hard to foster a sense of community, of love, and of childhood happiness.

I'm reaching out today because I desperately want to provide my students with all the resources they so deserve. I REALLY want to give my students an opportunity to work on iPads. The rest of my school will be distributing iPads to students K-5, but unfortunately TK will not be afforded the same luxury. My students were devastated when they heard the news. Unfortunately, students' educational experiences are often unfairly hindered by their poverty. I want to change that by providing them with the tools that will make their education engaging, relevant and intellectually enriching. Unfortunately, I spend hundreds of my own dollars on classroom supplies and play-based learning centers and cannot afford to purchase these iPads myself. I have seen firsthand the incredible resource that an iPad can be. IPads can present learning in a new multimedia format appealing to visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners. Special educational apps can also differentiate instruction for varying learners. Furthermore, my students are growing up in an age of incredible technological advancements and an ever growing job market for tech-savvy individuals. I firmly believe that my students should learn to be technologically literate as soon as possible.

..................................................................................................

Ideally, I am hoping to purchase 4 iPads so that I can use the iPads as a center. I have searched on ebay, craigslist, etc and have found that old iPads run anywhere from $250 - $350 depending on how many GB. Thus, I am looking to raise $1,200 dollars in order to purchase four. I will not spend the money towards anything other than an iPad or iPad case.

If anyone has an old iPad they would like to donate, or sell to me, I would be ENDLESSLY grateful and so would my students. Thank you so much if you took the time to read this and please consider donating. Anything, even just a dollar or two, helps and goes toward funding this incredible educational resource for my students.
