The Iraqi Student Project (ISP) is a grass-roots effort to help war-displaced Iraqi students acquire an undergraduate education. ISP seeks the help of US colleges, universities, and a host of generous volunteers in fulfilling our mission. Over a period of nine years, ISP recruited and prepared 64 Iraqi refugees of college age for undergraduate studies in the United States. However, in 2012 the escalating conflict in Iraq and Syria forced us to close our recruitment and training center in Damascus. A host of peace-loving volunteers in Damascus and the US—and forty-two US colleges and universities—made our mission possible. To all of them we express our profound and undying gratitude. Although the ISP Class of 2016 will be the final addition to ISP alumni, they will—like their peers before them—continue to be living witnesses to what is possible when good people rally in the face of challenge.
