BENEFITING: EL GRUPO NORTE YOUTH CYCLING
EVENT DATE: May 27, 2016
In 2012, the Eastern Elementary family lost a treasure. Zeke Goodwin was a sweet, gentle, quiet young boy with an infectious laugh. Those who knew him will tell you how very special he was.
As a way to raise money for the Zeke Good Memorial Scholarship fund, we’re asking the entire Eastern community to collect “I Ride For Zeke” pledges leading up to the big day.
Click the Register button to the right to get started. You can join an existing team or start a fundraising page all your own. Collect pledges as an individual here or sign up for a Crowdrise account – it’s easy! – and organize a “I Ride For Zeke” team to collect pledges as a family, class, business or organization and pedal together on May 27th. Our goal is to raise $5,000 for Zeke.
Norte! is honored to help remember and celebrate the gift of Zeke’s life as well as support the Zeke Goodwin Memorial Fund. Money from this fund provides an annual scholarship, in Zeke’s honor, to a high school senior who is following his or her dreams and whose life is an example of a life lived Zeke’s Way.
Last year’s recipient, Jepthe Jean Claude, was sent to the United States by his parents in Haiti right after the 2010 earthquake. Speaking only French and Creole, Jephte, in a few short years, has worked be able to attend college in the U.S. -- his lifelong dream. He is currently a student at Albion Collage.
Zeke would have been in the 5th grade this year. A big man on campus, for sure. As his fellow classmates get ready to move on from this amazing school, we’d like to recognize them as a way to remember Zeke. With support from McLain Cycle, we will be giving away a Specialized Hot Rock mountain bike to a 5th grader.
In addition to providing a senior scholarship, funds will be used to continue the tradition of awarding a bike to an Eastern 5th grader every year.
This year’s Zeke Goodwin Memorial Ride the best ever. With planning help from Zeke's classmates, expect new and improved route on Eastern’s neighborhood streets and trails.
