BENEFITING: LUPUS FOUNDATION OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
EVENT: Mascot Contest 2017
EVENT DATE: Jun 11, 2017
Hi my name is “Iris”. I am a 6 year old German Shepherd dog. I’m pretty calm and cool, I’m not the type that jumps on people, I’m known to be sweet and mellow. My favorite pass time is looking for squirrels. If I see a squirrel, I’ll get into my hunting mode and start walking real slow and sneaky, the squirrels usually run up a tree before I get close, but Mom always says that I got close and maybe next time? I do have a slight disability; my front right leg is a wee bit challenged causing me to sometimes walk with a limp. The situation doesn’t dampen my spirit or desire to go for daily walks; I am a warrior, like my Mom. Speaking of my Mom, her name is “Sophia” and she is crazy about me, she always tells me I’m the prettiest girl in the world! She has been battling “Lupus” since 1986 (I wasn’t even born then) I’ve seen her on her good days and bad days, and just love her unconditionally. A couple years back in 2015 I saw that she had a machine brought into her bedroom, I was told that she had to do this thing called “dialysis” and I had to stay out of her room, I didn’t like that idea, but I got use to it. Luckily she only had to be on dialysis for only 2 years because fast forward, great news, Mom received a kidney transplant on February 22, 2017 and no more machine! She is doing well and is very grateful!
