BENEFITING: HOWARD HOSPITAL FOUNDATION INC
EVENT DATE: Aug 21, 2011
8/18: I just wanted to send out another message underscoring the importance of quality healthcare in Howard County and how worthwhile it is to consider contributing to the Howard Hospital Foundation. I am waiting anxiously to find out if the orthopedist will OK my participation in Sunday's race. I just learned that I actually fractured the lumbar verterbrae - I'm not sure of the severity of it, but since I have been swimming and biking, I would say not TOO bad!
It is because of a healthcare system that, for the moment, still works to benefit us as we are able to access the care we deserve. While healthcare systems can dictate the future of a healthcare organization, so too can direct contributions from its donors. No donation is too small. I would just like to show an overwhelming amount of support from the good people in our community that work hard for us every day!
I am a bit behind the 8 ball with getting this started this year, so for that I apologize. Some of you may know that on July 5 (yes, on my birthday!) I wrecked on my bike while riding in North Carolina. I'll spare you the details, but suffice it to say that I am back on my bike and trying to prepare for the upcoming Iron Girl! It has been a challenge to come up with a new training plan with the August 21st race date so close! My goal had been to beat my times from last year. My new goal is to get in the race and do my best. I may be walking the last leg instead of running, but that will still take me over the finish line!
So why am I telling you all this and then turning around and asking for donations? Because this event made me stop and think....think about how lucky we are to have friends and family who support and help us when we need it most. And lucky to also have some of the world's best healthcare literally in our backyard!
We should all be thankful for the amazing health care resources that are available to us in the United States, and particularly in Howard County. With that said, any money that I am able to raise this year, whether I participate in or complete the Iron Girl, I will be donating to the Howard Hospital Foundation / Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource Center.
I have had the great privilege of getting to know the people that work with the Foundation and have also learned about the great strides that Howard County General has made over the years. I am proud to support them in their efforts in this community and to spread the word to my friends and family. I hope you will consider donating to this great cause!
