THE STORY:

A salute to the Wounded Warriors whose sacrifice enables our Freedom

As many of you know, 2017 is my come back year from back surgery. It has been a long, hard road back to fitness I thought I would never get back. I chose Ironman Augusta 70.3 for my comeback long course race and set a goal to better my time from 2010. My journey taught me how much we take our health, wellness and fitness for granted.

My comeback efforts pale in comparison to the struggles many injured veterans face when they come back from the battlefields, having made the ultimate sacrifice for our Freedom. From peak health and fitness in the prime of their youth, many disabled veterans struggle to find meaning and purpose in life. There are very few organization dedicated to supporting these heros back to a healthy sustainable lifestyle.   The Scott Rigsby Foundation, Inc. (SRF) is a Georgia nonprofit corporation dedicated to inspire, inform and enable individuals with disabilities to live a healthy, active lifestyle. SRF's primary goal is to promote the health and fitness of individuals with physical challenges by improving access to Prosthetic and Orthotic (P&O) care and resources, while supporting programs that empower individual lifestyle change.

One of SRF's key programs is "WARRIORS IN TRANSITION". This program enables injured Warriors to travel and compete as individuals or teams in the annual Ironman 70.3 Augusta event. SRF supports adaptive military athletes from across the country through programs that enable warrior counseling, life coaching and clinical assistance. SRF also provides adaptive sports training camps and competitive military-based events for injured Warriors in support of their personal goals.

With a goal to raise $5,000 towards this campaign, we will be able to sponsor 2 injured veteran athletes to train, travel and compete at the Ironman Augusta 70.3 on Sept 24, 2017.  My employer, Fifth Third Bank, will match the first $5,000 in donations. Fifth Third has a long tradition of supporting and hiring military veterans as well as providing ongoing support programs to veterans, wounded veterans and their families. This match is one more example of Fifth Third's commitment to those that have served and sacrificed for our country and our communities.

I hope you join me and Fifth Third in this campaign by making a donation for the cause. Saluting all the wounded veteran warriors and the warrior in each of us striving to make a comeback!
