BENEFITING: SCOTT RIGSBY FOUNDATION INC
ORGANIZER: SCOTT RIGSBY FOUNDATION INC
EVENT DATE: Sep 24, 2017
Last summer, I had the opportunity to hear Scott Rigsby, the first double amputee to complete Kona Ironman, speak about his journey and his dedication to helping our nation’s veterans. I was signed up for my first Ironman 70.3 later that year in Augusta. Angie and I purchased tickets to attend the dinner with Scott Rigsby Foundation the night before the race. We sat at the table surrounded by people who had served our country that now struggle with life at home.
This year, I am partnering with The Scott Rigsby Foundation to bring servicemen and women with disabilities to Ironman 70.3 Augusta. These men and women have been training to compete and our funds will provide travel, accommodations, entry fees and purchase a kit (gear for the race). More importantly, our time will provide a connection to someone that doesn’t see their disability instead of an athlete.
I will be competing in a relay team with veterans. Angie will be volunteering during the event.
It is a staggering statistic that 22 veterans commit suicide a day. Rather than post a video doing 22 push ups to raise awareness, we hope to make a human connection through the Scott Rigsby Foundation and Ironman 70.3 August which can make a difference in one life.
